About
In May 2011, following a series of routine newborn hearing screenings, my three week old daughter Chi was diagnosed with a severe to profound sensorineural hearing loss. The months to follow proved to be among the most trying to date.
Shortly after her diagnosis, she was prescribed with little hearing aids and it was now my duty to keep them in her ears during all waking hours. This would ensure she had the best start to life possible. Early intervention meant that she had a much greater chance of learning to listen, speak and comprehend on par with other kids her age.
The moment she developed her fine motor skills, keeping the hearing aids in was a daily battle. I tried everything, headbands, hats, beanies, double sided tape, you name it. I scoured the Internet for hearing aid hats, something that would prevent her from pulling them out, but at the same time allow the sound to get in without producing feed back.
All I found online was a limited range of hearing aid bonnets, most of which looked a lot like water polo caps. I purchased one as that was all there was. We’d often get stares and comments from strangers when Chi wore the cap which was disheartening to say the least. It served it's purpose of keeping the hearing aids in for the most part of the time, but it wasn’t ideal.
And so it was, the Angel Armour range of hearing aid hoodies was born out of a personal need for a more total solution to my daughter's hearing loss.
